They say that death come in threes

Let me start my commentary by saying that entertainment Icons like Etta James, Don Cornelius and just recently Whitney Houston is evidence that having fame and fortune does not always bring happiness. These talents only come around once in a life time. We happened to be witness to these great talents come and pass away. I often wonder why fame and fortune seem not to bring happiness to the person who is blessed with it.   But at the same time, brings happiness to millions of us who had the good fortune to see them perform. I know that when I was informed of the passing of all three of these icons, I was surprised. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that no one is here forever but somehow I was surprised each time.  Virgie and I were riding in my car when the news of Whitney Houston’s death was announced a few days ago. First the shock and then my thoughts went back to the old saying that death comes in threes. I am so glad of the fact that their work will be enjoyed by generations to come.

Raynetta Manees I got chills the first time I saw Whitney sing this song in "The Bodyguard." Hers was a talent for the ages. Thank God for movies and recordings so that future generations can know her and hear her fantastic God given talent.

Two years ago today Michael left us. It's a day I will never forget. My granddaughter Zayna called to tell me, "Grandma, they are saying on the news that Michael Jackson is dead." The first thing I said to her was, "Zayna, that's not funny!" thinking it was another one of so many untrue rumors about him. Then she said, in one of the saddest voices I've ever heard her use, "Grandma, it's really true." My heart sank within me. I’ll always be grateful to Michael because he and his music got me through one of the loneliest periods of my life. Also, he was the inspiration for my first book, so, in a way, I owe my writing career to him. Rest in Peace, Michael. You will never be forgotten.

2010 Karaoke Millennium Awards: Comments

I’m so glad I was able to attend.  I enjoyed myself tremendously.  The atmosphere was pleasant and the food was delicious not to mention the talent in the room was superb.  Onenitestan is the place to go if you’re looking for a good time!

Sincerely,

The Ventour Family

Congratulations on another successful event.  I am not surprised that the participants gave you an award.  A lot of hard work is involved in preparing for such an event--especially when it is annual.  People expect more from the event each year, and I am sure you do your best to provide more each year.  You have a wonderful spirit, and I know the charities that benefit from your event, are grateful.  Cheers to you, B.T.

I went to Baker's for the group talent contest a few weeks ago.  It was fun to get out after so long.  I ran into Rocky and Amando.  I hadn't seen them for about one and a half years.  The night scene doesn't seem to have changed much.

Well, take care.  I'm sure I will run into you sooner or later.

Love,

JJ

Thanks, JJ Love to see you at the 2011 Karaoke Millennium Awards, much Love BT

Tribute to Michael By: Raynetta Manees

Tribute to Michael on the First Anniversary of His Going Home Michael was that rare person who had love in his heart for everyone.  And one of the saddest things I ever heard in my life is that this wonderful person, who gave so much to so many,  had to risk and eventually lose his life just to obtain a basic necessity of life that we all take for granted sleep. I think it is no accident that you were named Michael, for that is the name of God's greatest Archangel.  I thank God for sending you to Earth to be with us for a while. For each one that closed their hearts to your message of hope and love there are thousands, I dare say MILLIONS more who DID embrace your message. Many believe that God gave Satan the choice of one century in which to do his worst work. The devil chose the 20th century. Is it any wonder then that God sent his mightiest Angel to us at the time we needed him most?

I still can't believe it's been a year.  Good Night, Sweet Prince.  Until we meet again.

January 28, 2010 Comments: I just wanted to say thank you to BT Baker for keeping it real. I had an opportunity to visit the website today and was pleasantly surprised to find the lovely pictures and the comments from people I know and respect.  Through BT's commitment and dedication to the karaoke world, we have the opportunity to stay connected and able to accomplish things that matter. It's nice to know that people share the same passion as you. In doing so, we can make a difference.
Thanks BT for being the wonderful, warm and caring person you are!

Hello Karaoke People,

My name is Virgie and I like others that have written in the "OneNiteStan The Magazine" am a karaoke enthusiast.  I've been around the karaoke scene since 1996 and have "karaoked" cross country on land and sea.  I've seen great karaoke and not so great and I've basically loved every minute of it!  I loved it so much that I decided to become a karaoke host and give back what was so freely given to me...JOY!

As a host, it's my job to make sure everyone is having a good time and to try and get people involved.  I love to see people sing for the first time...sometimes they're shy and sometimes they belt out a song like they've done it many times before!  In either case, after the "cherry popping" (so to speak) you watch them evolve into something magnificent and wonderful!  It does my heart good!

Michael Jackson Memorial Burial Motown (July 17, 2009)

Hello again Karaoke Lovers,

I'd like to share my thoughts about the recent untimely passing of someone I cared for and have admired from the start of his ever so amazing career Mr. Michael Jackson.

On June 25th 2009 after hearing the shocking news on the media, I felt the
same shock as when the airplane crashed into the world trade center!  I
couldn't believe what I saw and was hearing!  There was no way this talented and full of life person was in a coma and possibly dead!

I'd watched Michael grow up and become an amazing star and an ambassador of love and togetherness!  Michael made me want to be a better person. I know that some think he was strange and somewhat zany but the Rev. Al Sharpton said it best when he said the world was strange for not being able to understand Michael's convictions.  Michael had a purpose on this earth and I guess in a lot of ways he fulfilled it, His death has awakened in us the ability to look past outward appearances and to embrace our differences. He was a master at making people feel special regardless to who they were and what they were going through.

I want the fans to know that Michael lives within us all, and to honor him most we should show love, respect and enjoy life as he did.  If we could put a little love in our hearts for others and do what we can to heal the world, Michael would be proud. There are millions of people out there who love and respect you and know who you really were.

Rest in peace Michael, and thank you for a job well done!

Dearest Michael, I mourn you so.  Several times a day with shock and sorrowful surprise I grapple with the thought, Hes gone! Because it still doesnt seem real.  I know intellectually that it is true, but my heart just cant comprehend, just cant come to grips with a world without you in it.

But then I remember you ARE still here.  In our minds, in our hearts, in the dazzling music you left behind.  In all the people, especially children, that you have helped with your generosity and kindness.  In all the people who are thrilled and whose day is brightened by your dance, your smile.  Thank God for recorded music and video so that we may still bask in your sunlight and generations yet to come can understand, admire, and be enriched by your brilliance.  Good Night, Sweet Prince.  Until we meet again.

Thanks Raynetta, for your comments and or heart warming words

Comments: Hi BT, I would like to tell you how impressed I am with your Michael Jackson coverage in the OneNiteStan magazine.  I really enjoyed Virgie's thoughtful commentary on the passing of MJ. I agree that we all should show love, respect and enjoy life as Mike did.  Thanks Virg for keeping the good memories of Mike alive and reminding us all to show the positive things that Mike exemplified.

I wish that I could have seen the MJ contest :( Thanks for the coverage of that as well.

Take care!
